"Through my photography I want to reveal the paradoxes that occur in the crude environment of a construction site; the loneliness and calmness that emerges in contrast to this often noisy, dangerous, dirty and hard world of construction.
I want to report the challenging work but also the isolation of these people during this process of 'mass production'.
A builder is one of the most ancient professions and although it is constantly present in our every day imagery we don't pay much attention to it: people that still work with their hands and actually put together these immense constructions within an extremely developed and industrial society.
The reason that made me approach this ambient is because I have always liked to put my self into situations which I considered to be hard. Manifesting my loneliness throughout a journey, mentally and actually. Climbing a mountain (both in a metaphorical and literal sense), and reaching a point where I face the challenges around me become important elements for my journeys in life. Hence, being on a construction site allows me to visually manifest the above fundamentals. Moreover, the actual transformation of an environment is fascinating since at the same time it may reflect the ways we perceive changes in our lives.
Finally, observing and depicting this workforce makes my journey only more interesting and that's because we have always taken it for granted and never considered that behind these immense static constructions hide vivid personalities.
We assume that some people work under certain circumstances in this rapidly changing world and never consider the human effort and the self-discipline that one needs in order to accomplish a goal; human values which I want reflected in my work and life."
