Patricia Piccinini and Christopher Langton
From the 25th of July until the 31st of August the IMA will
present the work of Patricia Piccinini and Christopher
Langton in a show entitled Modified Terrain. This show
curated especially for the IMA, will be an exceptional
opportunity to see both of these artists together.
In Patricias work Swell three screened projections of
undulating water, painstakingly rendered on a computer,
transports us to the sea, leaving us dizzy and slightly
nauseated. Five of Patricias famous car nuggets also
feature in this show, their stunning, vivid colours and
designs recalling intricate car and helmet designs. Patricias
Panel Works, an extension of her Car Nuggets, are panels
of fabricated automotive exteriors and are beautifully
complimentary to Chriss works.
Chris Langtons work presents us with an idealised and
exaggerated world. A large wall work entitled Wall Flowers
features exactly that, flowers, yet these large motorised
flowers are nothing like what you would find in a back
yard. Refusing to die or stay still, Langtons flowers are
picture perfect. In another piece, two large inflated
Koalas, entitled, Soft Centre, invoke their iconic status
whilst they loom large over us. Chriss Action Men are
rather aptly titled; these three motorised figures move and
dance when triggered by music.
