C1tY is a transversal show mixing visual arts, street art, architecture, new media and electronic music. Organized with the French ArtyFarty organization, with the famous Nuits Sonores French music festival and supported by the Rhone-Alpes Region, this is the most complex show including French and Chinese artists participating inan amazing dialogue that 18Gallery has ever presented in Shanghai. The center of the show is built around a giant eightby- eight meter white architectural model by famous architects Laurent Graber and Antoine Trollat.
The model itself is the platform upon which the artists express themselves in many different ways - video, music, street art, digital art, etc. Together they form a creative dialogue around their vision of a urban space. The C1TY show brings together the work of young emerging video artists. This video program is aimed at understanding the different challenges of new forms of visual creation over the last ten years, and likely for the next decade as well. The C1TY exhibition is built around the idea of this giant architectural model, where four Chinese artists, Liu Jiawei, Maleonn, Yang Yong Liang and Zhang Dali, and five French artists, Yaze, Sun7, L1ÈS (street artists) Damien Beguet and P. Nicolas Ledoux, paint on the walls and the model itself is thereby brought to life.
These artistic interventions represent a metaphor for creativity and life growing within a city. Each of these artists offers a very personal vision of life in the city. Additionally, approximately a dozen international artists are invited twice a week during the show to offer visitors live sets of music.
