IKA mechelen (Art and Craft Institute)
offers part-time art education with a special focus on teaching both
the classical arts and crafts, and contemporary disciplines. the aim
is to impart professional skills and an artistic education by means of
intensive and systematic practice in combination with creative
experimentation. respect for the individual remains a core element in
this process.
IKA first included glass art as a discipline in 1985, and its glass
atelier and extensive, multitechnical facilities are unique in belgium

a mirror... catches the appearance of the body and transforms it,
reflects a presence, gives an illusion of reality.
spiking a space with mirror-traps. letting oneself be captured.
deceptive images.
appearances that make your head swim. refuse to accept the
evidence
ingrid arts
invites you, attentive spectator, to enter her little temples for a while:
frozen subjecs of sympathy (sympathy here in the meaning of
emotional similarity by congeniality) where tenderness and
vulnerability are preserved protective... and maybe you will hear a
sweet whispher... (pierre declerck)

in my work I approach subjects such as life, mortality, relationships
and religion. I can express these best in glass.
the fragility and transparency of the material make it the best
medium in which to visualize these thoughts.
working with glass is also a challenge: because it does not always
do what you want it to, it is exciting to explore the possibilities of the
material, without getting sidetracked into an obsessive search for
technical solutions.
bo de baets
at the opposite frontier of the curvilinear essence of my name 'bo', my
work is a search for the rectilinear extremes.
the inner transparency of glass, I enclose it in the harsh skin of
casted materials and I make it contrast with different, untransparent
materials. thus the unsolved question of warm or cold, light or heavy,
beingâ or its suggestion remains open.
if architecture already combines glass with other materials like wood
and lead, I wish to further its dimension by putting it in a new
perspective. I aim at embracing the 'empty' space and distilling the
dialogue of perspective and equilibrium, starting from a basic shape
of monumental uniformity to found the entirety of nearly everything.

glass what wonderfull material!
starting from a flat sheet it becomes the carrier of color. it notes the
inprint; the traces of underground, dept and material start to fight.
once worked with heat it bends, captures shapes and movements. it
becomes space; the maker, creator oppresses no longer: the dialoge
can begin.
carine neutjens
the pâte-de-verre objects of carine neutjens are closely related to
nature. the glass objects are inspired by stones, coral, lava and other
earth materials. although fragile at first sight, the work is sculptural
and monumental.
daniel olislaegers
your world is not the only one; other worlds exist somewhere else;
worlds disappeared; new worlds are to come.
all these worlds have an influence on me and I have to share my
feelings with people.
to do so, I work with glass and stone; glass because it is like a
magma and can be structured to express what I feel; stone because
it is the ultimate stage of living material. glass and stone bring to
each other their best; the initial stage and the final stage live
together.
eric pipien
the traveller is my theme. glass is the material I mainly use to work
out my ideas.
"traveller": live like a travel from birth till death. being on the way, not
standing still, accessible for the unknown. questions, do I have to
guide me, do I have to find my own way, and may I deviate from
trodden paths?
all questions and reflections that I try to shape in my work. I am
unable to give the answer, but I think that is not important. I am not
searching for the goal, but the travel.
addi ryckaert
my works are based on an encounter, a supplementary of nature and
architectural forms and elements.
the light is caught in the glass but released in a controled manner.
the pallette of colours remains limited to ground colours. always the
works are raising a question to the visitor to discover and to look for
personal emotion of far away destinations
koen vanderstukken
we are not able to see what is there and what we see is not there.
the pretence becomes truth and the truth becomes pretence.
answers are uncertain and al what stays is questions. when we stop
asking ourselves questions we stop with living.
