The city of Bandol on the French Riviera and the association art&A, with the contribution of the gallery Esther Woerdehoff, are pleased to announce the first edition of Bandol ~ Festival Vertical Horizon. The festival is dedicated to contemporary photography; it will take place from September 18th to November 14th, 2010 and will involve the whole city. With photographic exhibitions, meetings and workshops for photographers at all levels, the festival reveals a new point of view on seaside photography and coastal architecture.
Exhibitions:
1/ Parc du Canet: Vertical Horizon
Within the park, a wooded area of 25000 m2, about thirty tarpaulin prints have been hung. Two images have been chosen for each artist. The theme of the exhibition is seaside architecture : a vertical horizon rising in front of the sea or the ocean. Each photographer brings us on a visual trip from the Mediterranean Sea to the North Sea, from Belgium to Senegal, from India to Portugal. These images reveal a new poetic of the seaside, far from clichés of summer beaches and tourist spots.
This exhibition is meant to be itinerant, with improvement at each stop. Last year Vertical Horizon was shown in the gardens of the Villa Rotschild at Cannes.
The artists work on the same subject, but with very different aesthetics and approaches: from traditional black and white to experimental photography.

The gallery Esther Woerdehoff has been given carte blanche for the exhibition “The Open Sea” at the Galerie Ravaisou. For this first edition, eight contemporary photographers of different nationalities were selected.
Active in Paris since 1996 and located in a studio of the artistic Montparnasse, the gallery is well known for the balance it achieves between traditional and contemporary photography. For this exhibition, she has chosen eight artists whose pictures deal with the theme of the sea : Loan Nguyen, Götz Diergarten, Olivier Mériel, Philippe Calandre, Matthias Koch, David Koenig, Lillian Birnbaum and Michael von Graffenried.
