Young Artists picks the best of the UK's young and innovative creative talent. The exhibition showcases artists using varied art forms from across the country, selected to represent the UK at the International Biennale of young artists in Morocco 2011.
UK Young Artists is an exciting, new organisation working nationally and internationally to showcase young, creative practitioners between the ages of 18 – 30 whose work spans across all art forms; from visual arts to music, performance to literature. UK Young Artists pride themselves on providing networking opportunities and artistic development through intercultural dialogue and exhibitions showcasing outstanding art.
UK Young Artists is both a partnership and an event.
This national event for UK Young artists promises to be one of the foremost cross art form events for young artists and will alternate in the cities of Derby, Nottingham and Leicester on a two year cycle. From a large national submission the event will provide an opportunity to see and experience creative practices at the leading edge of contemporary creativity. This event is up to a week in duration and will showcase exceptional young talent from around the UK in all art forms. Young artists (18-30) will also have the opportunity to collaborate, to take part in workshops, debates and symposium and spend time with other artists in a more informal setting.
The first UKYA event is taking place in Derby from Thursday 21 until Sunday 24 October. Of the artists represented at UKYA event, around 15 will be selected to represent the UK at the following years International Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean.
In 2012, UK Young Artists will be partners in a world event for young artists as part of the Cultural Olympiad. This event will bring together up to 2,000 young artists from around the world and a substantial world audience to the East Midlands region and the UK. It will also provide an opportunity to profile the creativity of young artists. The world event will be as much about intercultural dialogue across political borders as it is about art and a chance for international exchange on a world scale. Work will be on show in some of the regions most prestigious venues and a whole city will be transformed by the creations of young people. The like of this has never been seen before in this country or indeed in the world. It will be an unforgettable experience for all who take part and its audiences.
UKYA aims to:
Showcase the best of the UK’s young and innovative creative talent at regular national and international events
Give vital support to young artists (18-30) at a critical time in their career
Increase confidence in young artists and support emerging creative networks and professional development
Promote the values of intercultural dialogue, art as a language of peace and cultural exchange
