Chert gallery opened on September 6, 2008 with the group exhibition "The Lamb´s Mother in the Creche?".
The gallery space was once a mechanics workshop located in Berlin-Kreuzberg. It consists of a single 75 sqm room split over two levels. The renovations have deliberately left many traces of its original purpose - namely the tiles lining the walls of the upper space, and the hole in the floor, typical of many car repair garages. The unique architecture of the space makes it an ideal stage for interpretation. This aspect constitutes a key role in the intention of the gallery, as most artists are invited to realize their projects in situ.
The Chino space was used between December 2008 and November 2010.
As a space physically in between two different activities, Chino guested exhibitions and projects related to the program of Chert gallery as well as presentations related to the activity of Motto Bookstore.
