Objects of Delight: Personal Choices from the Arts Council Collection marks the climax of a nine-month project in which fourteen older members of the Derby community have curated a major exhibition for QUAD. The project is part of a national Arts Council project to engage members of the public with contemporary art.

The group of curators, who are aged between 55 and 75, come with a wealth of expertise and experience from a variety of backgrounds, and all share an enthusiasm for the arts. They have researched and discussed contemporary art, some for the first time, and as a result have selected this exhibition from the Arts Council Collection. As part of the process, the curators made trips to the art stores in London and Yorkshire to view the Collection and to make the final choices.

The works chosen date from 1929 to 2003 and include sculpture and painting with such great favourites as William Nicolson, L.S Lowry, David Hockney, Gillian Ayres, Grayson Perry and Anya Gallaccio. The exhibition has been curated at QUAD, co-ordinated by Jane Bevan and can be seen in QUAD Gallery from 13th November 2010 until 16th January 2011.

The exhibition will be open to the public on Friday 12th November from 5:00pm onwards and entrance is free.

Other exhibition events include a lunchtime Curator’s Talk with Natalie Rudd, Sculpture Curator from the Arts Council Collection and ‘Objects of Delight’ curators who will present an informal guide through a selection of works on display. The lunchtime Curator’s Talk is free and takes place on Thursday 9th December, from 12:30pm until 2:00pm.
