Three photographers: Phil Collins, Daniela Rossell, Sharon Yaari. The Anthony Wilkinson Gallery is pleased to present three photographers whose work has a strong reference to where they come from or now live, on a personal and political level. Each artist by presenting individuals in their daily lives, in some way challenges the conventional media representations of those societies and addresses the socio-political situations which lie beneath.

The Anthony Wilkinson Gallery is pleased to present three
photographers whose work has a strong reference to
where they come from or now live, on a personal and
political level. Each artist by presenting individuals in their
daily lives, in some way challenges the conventional
media representations of those societies and addresses
the socio-political situations which lie beneath.
Phil Collins (Born UK 1970) lived and worked in Belfast
until recently moving to Belgrade. His series of portraits
Young Serbs present intimate studies of young people
living in Belgrade which invite reflection on the beauty and
vuneralbility of individuals dealing with traumatic events
and the psychological and social effects of disruption,
violence and loss. He recently finished a residency at
PS1, New York.
Daniela Rossell (Born Mexico City 1973) photographs
the wealthy and priviliged in Mexico City in her series
titled Rich & Famous. Her subjects (which include friends
and family) present themselves on their own terms
displaying the opulence of their habitat which often verges
on kitch. These portraits become more pertinent when one
realises that many of the photographs picture the relatives
of Carlos Salinas, Mexicos discredtited ex-president
whose extravagant lifestyle infamously contrasted with
that of the population, over half of whom live in poverty.
She is currently in the exhibition Mexico City: An
Exhibition about the Exchange Rates of Bodies and
Values which was at PS1, New York and is now at
Kunstwerke, Berlin.
Sharon Yaari (Born Israel 1966) lives and works in Tel
Aviv. He photographs the daily lives of people living on the
West Bank - visiting friends, walking along well trodden
paths and football pitches. The seemingly mundane,
however takes on a larger significance in the context of
the location and the instability and suffering that has been
endured.
Special thanks with this exhibition to Kerlin Gallery,
Dublin. Green Naftali, New York. Lisson Gallery, London
and Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv.
