comunicato stampa

This year PAN Amsterdam, the Netherlands’ art and antiques fair of today, will run from 21 to 28 November in the Parkhal of the Amsterdam RAI. One hundred and sixteen dealers will be at the fair, which is now in its 24th year. A record number of almost 42,000 people visited the fair in 2009. PAN Amsterdam is an annual event in the diaries of more than two thirds of all of the visitors to the fair.

Diversity that inspires
PAN Amsterdam unites the past and the present in paintings, prints, design, silver, glass and sculpture—and in Asian art and jewellery too. From Brueghel to Borzobohaty, this can create exciting combinations. All the objects have one thing in common—every item at PAN Amsterdam is top quality and has been vetted by more than eighty experts for quality, condition and authenticity.

Jan Brueghel the Younger
The Salomon Lilian gallery of Amsterdam is selling a colourful flower still life by Jan Brueghel the Younger (1601-1678). It is a mixed bouquet of roses, tulips, irises, snapdragons and carnations. The use of colour and the technique make it likely that the work was painted after 1630. In that year Jan Breughel the Younger became master of the Antwerp Guild of St Luke, whose past members included Peter Paul Rubens and Pieter Coecke van Aelst.

Twenty-first-century relief
The steel relief by French artist Ania Borzobohaty (1972) will be offered for sale by De Vierde Dimensie. The work can be considered as a painting, sculpture or design of abstract architecture and is reminiscent of what De Stijl regarded as the ideal design, where sculpture, architecture and painting become one.

However, her work shows the influence of the Polish artist Katarzyna Kobro, a pupil of Vasily Kandinsky, who was familiar with De Stijl. Ania Borzobohaty studied in Poland, Spain and France and has an international reputation in South America, the Netherlands and elsewhere.

Rondje PAN
Every day art lovers who would like to spend an hour getting a good idea of the diversity of PAN Amsterdam can take part in Rondje PAN (“Around PAN”), a guided tour in Dutch that provides a more detailed explanation of a number of top items. Price € 5 per person.
