Wax on. Performance
Wax on. A performance by Belgian artist Joris Van de Moortel on Friday, December 9th from 8 to 10 p.m., on occasion of the finissage of his exhibition Like a hurricane (you are like). The title of the performance refers to the track 'Head On' in The Stooges album Metallic K.O.; a noisy drone of mostly drum and bass guitar with very limited lyrics on top. Van de Moortel's sculptures, pictures and objects are made of raw materials like wood, glass, parts of furniture, musical instruments and found objects. He disassembles and de-functions them, in order to reconnect them temporarily in other variations. The performance Wax on will give an insight in Van de Moortel's processual practice and working method of creation and destruction, 'doing' and 'undoing'. During the performance he will re-activate some of the works in the exhibition, like the drum set from Bag Drop and the burned amplifier Marshall; temporarily giving them back their function and re-animating them as musical instruments. Live music will literally be recorded during a jam session with a drummer and a bass player.
