Hunter Hare Dog. Dybvig's drawings look like slightly eccentric diary notes with fragmented figures and words out of context. He takes down scenery from everyday life, if possible in unknown surroundings, cities he had not visited before, with foreign languages. Dybvig draws extremely fast, frantic, sometimes while walking, his dating of the works includes the time of the day, documenting the speedy procedure.
PER DYBVIG was born in Stavanger, Norway, in 1964. He studied at Bergeland Videregâende Skole and lives and works in Stavanger. Awards for illustrations and artwork.

“It is rash. And considered. Per Dybvig’s drawings record the fleeting moment, while at the same time showing how that moment cannot be retained as absolute meaning. It is but the briefest glimpse of something that has already passed the instant it is seen as captured, only to be promptly replaced by other moments, new meaning, fresh insignificance. Also the endless stream of news that fills radio, television, and the internet provides inspiration for wry studies, quick sketches that could not be finished before the following news interfered. The order of drawings lacks any consistent principle as the infinite news feed does.
“Dybvig’s conclusion is an aesthetic one, not in the form of decoration or noncommittal beauty, but created by transforming his impressions of the news into an aesthetic arrangement of signs on paper: figures and words that insist on a meaning of their own, independent of the news content that these fragments once carried. It is a striking metamorphosis we see in Dybvig’s news drawings - the profusion of meaning carried to its absurd conclusion becomes meaninglessness, only to reappear as new meaning, of a visual and poetic kind.“ (quot. In 2009/2010 the artist started to transfer his non-linear drawings into film. The first work Hunter Hare Dog and his most recent one Around the House or in the Bar, at least both refer to Georg Pencz's famous print The Hunter Caught by the Hares (16th century). They take up the abysmal story of the hunter and his dogs. The films shown in the gallery are accompanied by large colour and b/w drawings.
