Antes/despues

The exhibition antes/después (before/after) comprises a set of preparatory documents and other traces of the artistic rituals initiated by Santiago Borja, Hernain Bravo, Juan Pablo Macias and Mario de Vega. The status of mnemonic material has been in question ever since the avant-gardes of the 1960’s. Documentation or artworks? To provoke and pursue the accidental, to replace the traditional hammer and burin with explosives, to hang improbable, flimsy habitations above the ground, to seek out a vagrant’s past, to replace the famous Persian bedspread draped over the couch of an illustrious psychoanalyst who died in London in 1939 with a set of original fabrics made for the occasion by an Huichol Indian – these are a few of the practices that before/after sets out to interrogate.
