SUPERMARKET will for the second year in a row arrange Sweden’s biggest international art fair in Kulturhuset (The House of Culture), located at Sergels Torg in the very centre of Stockholm.
SUPERMARKET THE EXHIBITION
More than 70 artist-run galleries and other artists’ initiatives from 26 countries will take part in the exhibition. New cities that are represented are, amongst others: Athens, Chisinau, Craiova, Klaipeda, Mexico City, Prishtina, Sofia and Yerevan. Artists from Mali and Nigeria are presented as a special project in the exhibition.
SUPERMARKET Issue#1
An art magazine in English containing articles by a number of well-known Swedish and international writers, SUPERMARKET Issue#1, is being released for the first time. This year’s theme is “The Absent Hub” - an important subject in a time of paradigmatic change that can be seen as a result of development within a global economy and digital communication systems.
SUPERMARKET TALKS
The discussion seminar series SUPERMARKET TALKS will have the same theme as the magazine, but also focus on freedom of speech within contemporary art. Examples: Religion and contemporary art. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - The Private, the Alternative and the Institutional. Africa Talks - Artists and curators from Bamako and Lagos. Eastern Europe - Temperature Check. Report from the Ghetto Biennale, an exhibition arranged in the streets of Port au Prince in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti disaster. Not only that, but a boxing match will be arranged between Bulgaria and Turkey as well as a discussion about the new culture policies between decision-makers and practitioners. The TALKS programme on Saturday is in English.
SUPERMARKET PERFORMANCE
SUPERMARKET 2011 has invited the new performance art project “No Budget Performance” to curate the performance programme inside and around Kulturhuset. Together with performances arranged by exhibitors and other invited artists, there will be over 60 performances.
SUPERMARKET MEETINGS (non-public)
Behind the walls of SUPERMARKET there will be a lot of networking. Artists that act as exhibition organisers, project managers and other influential members of artistic communities from across the world will meet and exchange experiences and strategies, in order to create new cross-border collaborations.
