Bolivia In all senses
from Saturday 2nd through Sunday 10th November 2002

"Id like to own a portable gadget that could take and play back multi-sensory snapshots..." said Julia Lloyd-Jones in relation to her forthcoming exhibition Bolivia In all senses, "...it would make life a lot easier!"

Normally, 4 stills cameras, a DV camera and a MiniDisc recorder would be more than adequate to document a trip to an unfamiliar place, but Julia finally realised in Bolivia that it could need even more than that. She was certainly seeing and hearing amazing things, but she realised how inextricably linked these were to the often pungent aromas she inhaled, dubious delights she consumed, under-familiar textures she touched and giddy way she felt in the highest country in the world. She started to formulate the concept that would indeed allow her to share all this with everyone back home as fully as possible, but also in a way that would stimulate and entertain rather than switch them off (as is often the case with someone elses experiences and recordings!).

This novel multi-sensory art installation primarily aims to offer visitors their own individual and personal experience of travelling around Bolivia. The exhibition will take place in just over two weeks at Trinity Buoy Wharf in Londons E14 a unique location and opportunity that inspired it to happen so suddenly after months of searching. "Just as Bolivia is a fascinating country, so the Wharf is an extraordinary location in London. I hope that holding the exhibition in this location will open peoples minds twice as wide to the importance of discovery, originality and interactive experiences, especially in our accelerating world of hype and passive digestion".

Different themes will be set up in 3 large raw spaces in the 19th century wharf building, whilst an orientation area will be housed in one of the extraordinary artist studios developed from shipping containers ("Container City 2") by Urban Space Management.

It runs from Saturday 2nd through Sunday 10th November 2002, open on weekends and Fridays from 10am until 5pm. On Sunday 3rd November there will be a Private View with Bolivian refreshments and more (details to follow).

For more information, please visit the website - dont expect it to be flash (quite literally), because thats not what the exhibition is about!
