The exhibition focuses on the aspects of artist's oeuvre that explore emotional intimacy, physical closeness, psychological distance, voyeurism and the role of spectator.

Sean Kelly is pleased to announce the opening of Distancias Cortas. Julião Sarmento at La Casa Encendida in Madrid, Spain. The exhibition, which was curated by Adrian Searle, opens on April 2, 2011 and will be on view through June 5, 2011.
Distancias Cortas. Julião Sarmento, which includes films, sculptures, drawings and paintings, in curated to highlight the ways in which Sarmento's work speaks on desire. The exhibition focuses on the aspects of Sarmento's oeuvre that explore emotional intimacy, physical closeness, psychological distance, voyeurism and the role of spectator.
Sarmento has exhibited extensively worldwide since 1979. He has been included in two Documentas and has represented Portugal in two Venice Biennales. His work is represented in public and private collections worldwide such as: The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Musée National d'Art Moderne Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Holland; and the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. Forthcoming in 2011 are exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York and the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.
