Il project space di Kaleidoscope ospita The Two Magicians, un progetto di Alex Cecchetti (1976, Terni; vive e lavora a Parigi).

Il lavoro di Cecchetti è caratterizzato dalla capacità di dare vita, attraverso un'ampia varietà di media, a situazioni che innescano relazioni critiche tra cose e individui. Tali relazioni si rivelano presto come grimaldelli utilizzati dall'artista per indagare il sorgere di tensioni e attriti, e al contempo mettere in discussione il principio di autorialità individuale. Nella serie di performance I giocatori, ad esempio, Cecchetti invita ogni volta un diverso artista a confrontarsi con lui in un dialogo fatto non di parole ma bensì di oggetti, azioni e materiali, che si accumulano dando vita a un assemblage in continua evoluzione, fino alla resa di uno dei duellanti.

Il 3 aprile alle ore 18.30, Cecchetti presenterà The Two Magicians, una performance concepita appositamente per gli spazi del project space di Kaleidoscope che lo pone in relazione con la danzatrice Julia Cima.
The Two Magicians - una ballata folk che narra di una giovane donna perseguitata da un terribile amante; per sfuggirgli e' costretta a trasformarsi costantemente in oggetti e animali. Di questa ballata si sono perdute le origini e oggi ne esistono numerose versioni. Utilizzandone la vicenda come canovaccio, Cecchetti e Cima esamineranno i topoi della seduzione, del corteggiamento, della possessione e della metamorfosi.

L'idea della trasformazione in un'altra entità come passaggio necessario per possedere il proprio amante è un motivo ricorrente nella letteratura e nell'arte: in un testo sacro induista, quando il primo uomo corteggiò la prima donna, per sottrarglisi lei si trasformò in una mucca, ma immediatamente lui si trasformò in un toro; quindi lei mutò il proprio aspetto in una giumenta, e lui in uno stallone; lei in una pecora, lui in un ariete; lei in un forno, lui in una torna; e così via, finchè dalle loro ripetute unioni tutte le specie animali e le cose vennero create.
Così The Two Magicians evolve il discorso che Cecchetti aveva inaugurato ne I giocatori, a sondare i meccanismi interni di una relazione fondamentale: quella amorosa.

A partire dal termine della performance, e a seguire nei giorni successivi, sarà possibile assistere alla proiezione di Deux Chiens, un video che racconta la capacità dell'immagine filmata di sedurre e catturare lo sguardo dello spettatore.

Alex Cecchetti ha avuto mostre personali presso la Vitrine, Parigi (2010); ZERO, Milano (2008); Analix Forever, Ginevra (2003). Ha inoltre esposto presso il MAGASIN - Centre National d'art Contemporain de Grenoble (2010); La Kunsthalle Mulhouse (2010); la Kadist Art Foundation, Parigi (2009); FormContent, Londra (2009); Centro di Cultura Contemporanea Strozzina (CCCS), Firenze (2009); Artists Space, New York (2009); Museion, Bolzano/Bozen (2009); FRAC - Pays de la Loire, Carquefou (2008); Palais de Tokyo, Parigi (2007). E' fondatore della rivista THE UNREADy. Fino all'8 maggio, lo Jeu de Paume di Parigi presenta la mostra The Police Return to the Magic Shop La Guerre, Le Thatre, La Correspondance, un progetto di Cecchetti e Mark Geffriaud.

Julia Cima (1975; vive e lavora a Rennes) - danzatrice e attrice. Ha al suo attivo numerose collaborazioni, delle quali la più duratura e prolifica è quella attiva dal 1995 con Boris Charmatz. Nel 2005 ha ideato Visitation, uno spettacolo composto di assoli riscoperti negli archivi della Cinematheque de la Danse di Parigi e re-interpretati. Sono seguite altre creazioni autonome, come I'm delighted (2008), Dance Beyond Borders (2009) e POEM (2010). Dal 2009 insegna al Theatre National de Bretagne di Rennes.

The Two Magicians fa parte della programmazione del project space di Kaleidoscope, affidata per la stagione 2010-2011 alla curatela di Michele D'Aurizio ed Eva Fabbris.

The Kaleidoscope project space hosts "The Two Magicians", a project by Alex Cecchetti (1976, Terni; lives and works in Paris).

Cecchetti's work uses a wide variety of media to create situations that trigger critical relationships between things and people. These relationships are soon revealed to be picklocks used by the artist to investigate the arising tension and friction, and at the same time questioning the principle of individual authorship. In the series of performances I giocatori (The Players), for example, Cecchetti calls upon a different artist each time for a confrontation made not of words but of objects, actions and materials that build up creating a constantly changing assemblage, to the point of the "surrender" of one of duellists.

On April 3 at 6:30 pm, Cecchetti will present The Two Magicians, a performance conceived specifically for the Kaleidoscope project space, where he will be in performance with the dancer Julia Cima.
"The Two Magicians" is a folk ballad that tells of a young woman pursued by a terrible lover; to escape from him she is forced to constantly turn herself into objects and animals. The origins of this ballad have been lost and today there are many versions. Using the story as a plot, Cecchetti and Cima examine the tòpoi of seduction, courtship, possession and metamorphosis.
The idea of transformation into another entity as a necessary step in possessing one's lover is a recurring motif in literature and art: in a sacred Hindu text, when the first man wooed the first woman, to hide herself she turned into a cow, but he immediately turned into a bull; then she changed her appearance into a mare and he a stallion; she became a sheep, he became a ram; she became an oven, and he a spit, and so on, until from their repeated unions all animals and things were created.
Thus The Two Magicians develop the theme that Cecchetti had opened with I giocatori (The players), to explore the inner workings of a fundamental relationship: the love relationship.

Beginning with the end of the performance, and in the days that follow, the film Deux Chiens will be shown, a video that shows the filmed image's capacity to seduce and capture the viewer's attention.

Alex Cecchetti has had solo exhibitions at La Vitrine, Paris (2010), ZERO..., Milan (2008); Analix Forever, Geneva (2003). Until May the 8th, the Jeu de Paume in Paris presents the exhibition "The Police Return To The Magic Shop - La Guerre, Le Théatre, La Correspondance", a project by Cecchetti and Mark Geffriaud.

Julia Cima (1975; lives and works in Rennes) is a dancer and actress. She has had numerous collaborations, the most enduring and prolific of which has gone on since 1995 with Boris Charmatz. In 2005 she designed Visitation, a show consisting of solos rediscovered in the archives of the Cinémathèque de la Danse in Paris and re-interpreted. These are followed by other independent creations, such as I'm delighted (2008), Dance Beyond Borders (2009) and POEM (2010).Since 2009 she has taught at the Théatre National de Bretagne, Rennes.

"The Two Magicians" is part of the programming of the Kaleidoscope project space, headed and curated for the 2010-2011 season by Michele D'Aurizio and Eva Fabbris.
