In her most current series, inspired by the rare botanic photo studies of the Japanese artist Araki, Eugenia Burgo has revealed her sensitivity to Japanese art.
Eugenia A. Burgo focuses on the small, allegedly almost unreal details in nature which she blows up in the medium of oil on her large canvases. The glimpse of the spectator inevitably remains caught in the paintings full of intense colors, mysterious applications of light/dark shades with almost erotic and sensual elements.
In her most current series, inspired by the rare botanic photo studies of the Japanese artist Araki, Eugenia Burgo has revealed her sensitivity to Japanese art. First impressions seem to show a certain realism, but looking more closely, Burgo's work reveals more of an enraptured secret world beyond every materialistic objectivity. In this demi-world between classic nature motifs and color space, her paintings leave endless room for interpretation. With her postive art work, she sets an optimistic antithesis to the negative interpretation of the world affairs by media and mainstream contemporary art.
Eugenia A. Burgo is an American artist born and raised in Zürich. She studied painting in Boston, Massachusetts, USA and in Florence, Italy and continued with art history studies at the University of Zurich.
