Past Imperfect - Future Tense. Botanical Art from The Botanical Artists Association of South Africa / Drowning in Colour by Yvette Dunn
Two new exhibitions are opening this coming Tuesday, 12 April 2011. In the main gallery 'Past Imperfect - Future Tense' Botanical Art from The Botanical Artists Association of South Africa. The KZNSA Gallery has curated a large exhibition of botanical watercolours, drawings and prints that represent some of the finest work produced in the country. Young guest artist Sibonelo Chiliza will present his first major public showing. Sibonelo was awarded bronze medals in the 2004 and 2006 Kirstenbosch Biennales and a silver medal in 2010. The exhibition will feature an installation of botanical San rock art, an educational programme for learners and demonstrations by Sibonelo. This exhibition forms part of the Gallery's Social Art Intervention Programme. It places these botanical works within the broader context of cultural heritage and society, and the environment. In the mezzanine gallery 'Drowning in Colour' by Yvette Dunn. Acrylics on canvas, a Public Art Performance and Videography Installation. Dunn uses her life and heritage as inspiration. She uses her body as the canvas and a point of departure into the creation of her work - be it a painting or recording herself as her alter ego 'Shero'. Dunn will swim in a pool of five colours of paint and then wipe the residue on canvas, which will be hung up for sale. Polaroids will be taken for the audience to purchase of themselves photographed with the performer. Opening at 6pm.
