During her one year residency at Wiels, Eleni Kamma finalized and published the book Enlever et Entretenir. The exhibition is based on the material in the book, which acts as a kind of generator. In her books, drawings and videos, Eleni Kamma investigates possible architectures that activate, rather than tolerate 'other' positions. She explores persistently the inherent gaps and contradictions within existing cultural narratives and classification strategies.
During her one year residency at Wiels, Eleni Kamma finalized and published the book Enlever et Entretenir, that forms the starting point of her eponymous exhibition in the Wiels Project Room. The exhibition is based on the material in the book, which acts as a kind of generator. The work presented here is not made up of only fragments and re-interpretations of the book but builds up new narratives inspired by the specific exhibition context.
In her books, drawings and videos, Eleni Kamma investigates possible architectures that activate, rather than tolerate “other” positions. She explores persistently the inherent gaps and contradictions within existing cultural narratives and classification strategies. Enlever et Entretenir disrupts the canonical production of meaning within and via the synchronous appearance of words and images, researching the relation of the cliché, the banal and the stereotype to the formation of history and the fabrication of identities.
