The Royal British Society of Sculptors is delighted to host the first solo exhibition
of Paolo Cavinato’s work in the UK. Regarded as one of Italy’s emerging talents,
he recently exhibited alongside Anish Kapoor and Richard Long in an exhibition
curated by Marco Pierini at the Galleria Civica di Modena in 2011.
Paolo Cavinato creates multi-sensorial spaces to examine reality and our association with three-
dimensional spaces. The constructed spaces question our understanding of what we actually
see and what really exists and in doing so he creates a dialogue with the viewer on a
metaphysical and emotional level. Cavinato’s work is concerned with human interaction with
the environment and the relationship and transformation that is formed through this exchange.
His work reflects the concept of change, mutation, and movement that occurs within family
structures and within an inner self.
His research focuses upon the re-reading of space by creating a ‘visual dimension’ or ‘a room’
where the boundaries are defined encouraging the viewer to engage from different,
pre–determined perspectives. These pre-fixed view points allow for fragmentation to occur by
using the stimulus of sight and sound, sometimes with the collaboration of composer Stefano
Trevisi; a new experience is formed. Cavinato involves the viewer as part of his work and aims
to engage the audience on an intellectual and sensory level to allow for moments of self-
reflection and spiritual consideration. Cavinato will exhibit new, exciting, site-specific works in
the RBS galleries creating a unique experience for visitors to the space.
Paolo Cavinato lives and works in Mantua, Italy. He originally studied Interior Design at the
Institute of Fine Art in Mantua before continuing his studies as a Film Maker and Set Designer in
Milan. He has featured in number of international solo exhibitions since 2001 in Milan, Berlin
and Istanbul and in international group shows in New York, Brussels, Istanbul and throughout
Italy since 1997.
