comunicato stampa

We are proud to present Peter Johansson´s third solo show at the gallery entitled Guten Heute alle Leute. Es ist Unser in der Luft. Bald kommen die Löwen und die Bären.

The show consists of one work with the same title as the show, 9 showcases made out of glass and wood, containing nazi uniforms and skinhead outfits embroidered and ornamented in a traditional, Swedish way and "White Object", a large wheel of fortune with eight Swedish t-shirts stretched onto it.

Guten Heute alle Leute. Es ist Unser in der Luft. Bald kommen die Löwen und die Bären examinas the relationship between the nazi movement of the 1930s and 1940s and toddys patriotism. Using dark humour as a weapon, Peter Johansson deals with the Swedish identity and the Swedes¹ self-image, our history and, more generally, how a national identity is created. As in his earlier works he pinpoints the more extreme aspects of nationalism.

Peter Johansson currently participates in the Biennale in Buenos Aires. His solo show In the best of all possible worlds toured last year to Borås Konstmuseum, Sweden, Porin Taidemuseo, Finland and Brandts Klædefabrik, Denmark. He recently had a soloshow at The Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo and he has participated in group shows such as ev+a in Limerick and Beyond Paradise in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

The exhibition opens Thursday December 5, 5-8 pm and runs to Saturday January 11, 2003. The gallery is open Tuesday - Friday

11 am 5 pm, Saturday 12 5 pm. The gallery will be closed 22/12 26/12 and 29/12 1/1. For further information and visuals please contact the gallery.
