Next Africa. The work of the artist supports the Project Migration, a project by Hilary Rowland and promoted by the musician Sting. Her photographs were taken in South Africa, where she worked on a photographic project called Right of Happiness.
The Soho Loft Gallery has chosen the work of Speranza Casillo to support the Project Migration , a project by Hilary Rowland and promoted by the musician Sting.
Speranza Casillo lives in Rome, but Africa will always have a special place in her heart. Her photographs were taken in Kenya, and the hospitality of the Maasai was unforgetable. She lived in Chyulu Hills and every day was an experience rich in friendship and human kindness. So she returned several times.
In South Africa, Speranza worked on a photographic project called Right of Happiness, where she took photos in townships and interviewed South Africans about happiness. She continued the same project in Italy and plans to bring it to several parts of world!
She collaborated for three years with the writer Roberto Saviano, author of the book Gomorrah, who lives under protection because of his work dealing with the mafia. In 2009, Speranza organized an installation piece against crime. More than 900 people sent their photos to say NO to crime. In the same year she won a PWI (Italian Web Awards) award as “Best Artist of the Year”.
Her more recent work, “Being You”, was developed with film producer and editor, Erika Manoni. The project is designed as a space where people can utilize words, silences, and imagination to express themselves. Each of the six stories are told through photographs.
Project Migration is starting a movement. It's a movement about inspiration, empowerment & global humanity.
A migration towards an ideal: the world coming together to fight poverty and save lives.
