The Cultural Group ATOPOS Contemporary Visual Culture (ATOPOS CVC) is organising the exhibition ARRRGH, Monsters in Fashion at the Benaki Museum (Peiraios Street premises) from May 14th to July 31st. The exhibition presents the extension of the phenomenon of paradoxical, bizarre and monstrous characters in fashion and dress, for the first time globally.
The Characters are imaginary creations by contemporary artists, which derive from the fusion of the human form with zoomorphic, mythical and supernatural characteristics. On the grounds of this new tendency in contemporary art, upcoming and established fashion designers and artists redefine the relation of the body with clothing, the possibilities of the human form and the limits of our perceptions of beauty and monstrosity, combining new codes of visual communication in dress.
Artist Charlie Le Mindu, well-known from his cooperation with Lady Gaga and Mylène Farmer, presents some of his works on 12 May – 29 July 2011, at the Athens French Institute, Sina 31 str.
The opening of the exhibition, saturday 14th may 2011, was deliberately scheduled to coincide the celebrations of European Museum Night, includes a performance Atopic Bodies [FIVE]: The Monsters’ Ball.
