International street photography festival in King's Cross with satellite activities across London
12 exhibitions and twice as many workshops and events at London's finest venues including Tate Modern, National Portrait Gallery, British Library and St Pancras International. The London Street Photography Festival is an exciting new event in London's cultural calendar which champions contemporary street photographers, honors past masters and provides a space for discussion, debate and appreciation of the current relevance of this time-honored genre. Street photography captures people and places within the public domain and can be defined as "un-posed, un-staged photography which captures, explores or questions contemporary society and the relationships between individuals and their surroundings." Street photography is a tradition nearly as old as photography itself. As soon as cameras and processing techniques became portable and practical enough to leave the confines of the studio (around the 1870's) photographers began documenting the world around them. In particular they photographed urban areas where life moved quickly and the urge to record and document change and progress was instinctive. The festival takes place throughout July with a diverse programme of exhibitions, events, talks, walks and workshops. In this first year, exhibitions will be curated by the festival team and partners rather than through submissions. Exhibitions and events will take place at the German Gymnasium, British Library, National Portrait Gallery, V&A and St Pancras International.
