Johann König, Berlin is pleased to present this year’s group exhibition
Sculpture is three-dimensional artwork created by shaping or combining hard materials - typically stone such as marble - or metal, glass, or wood. Softer materials can also be used, such as clay, textiles, plastics, polymers and softer metals with sculptures by 16 international artists.

Ranging from established to emerging, the artists included in the exhibition are from outside of the gallery program. Loosely their positions can all be categorized as referring to, expanding or going beyond the conventional notion of sculpture and its parameters. Most of the artists represented in the exhibition deliberately pursue a diversity of aesthetic strategies deriving from photographic, filmic, performative or also curatorial and publishing practices. The respective works thus often consist of materials that are opponent to the common definition of sculpture, but testify a somewhat ‘sculptural’, that is decidedly physical and special quality.
