Two exhibitions

Kunstmuseum Luzern, Luzern

The exhibition 'Der Moderne Bund' is seeking to explain the group's artistic dialogue and its pioneering work for Switzerland. As well as works by the three founder members, Hans Arp, Walter Helbig and Oscar Luthy, the exhibition also include drawings, prints and paintings by Wilhelm Gimmi, Hermann Huber and Paul Klee, who joined the core group soon after its foundation. On show also the large multi-media installation in which the musician, composer and artist Charlotte Hug sounds out the 'aggregate states of night'.

Der Moderne Bund
Curated by Christoph Lichtin

‘Der Moderne Bund’ (The Modern Alliance) is generally seen as the first artistic association to attract attention and encourage the reception of modern art in Switzerland. Its foundation in 1911 in Weggis marks modern art’s breakthrough in the country. Like Munich’s ‘Blaue Reiter’, formed at the same time, ‘Der Moderne Bund’ pursued the goal of making avant-garde art familiar and accessible to a wider public.

The exhibition in Museum of Art Lucerne is seeking to explain the group’s artistic dialogue and its pioneering work for Switzerland. As well as works by the three founder members, Hans Arp, Walter Helbig and Oscar Lüthy, the exhibition will also include drawings, prints and paintings by Wilhelm Gimmi, Hermann Huber and Paul Klee, who joined the core group soon after its foundation.

In Collaboration with Lucerne Festival
Curated by Peter Fischer & Mark Sattler

‘Insomnia’ is the title of the large multi-media installation in which the musician, composer and artist Charlotte Hug sounds out the ‘aggregate states of night’. The constantly changing exhibition space also serves as an inspiring site for a concert programme of solo performances and improvisations of London’s Stellari String Quartet, which Lucerne Festival has commissioned Hug to put on under its motto, ‘Night’.
