Young mothers and other delicate questions
Young mothers and other delicate questions. For years, Tobias Rehberger has been successfully residing at the interface between art and design. Born 1966 in Esslingen am Neckar, the artist combines well-known elements from architecture, design and art history and challenges the authorship of works of art, the function of objects or the zeitgeist with its trends and fads. Lamps, recliners or vases are among the material used by Tobias Rehberger in his exploration of the point at which items of daily use become works of art. In so doing he expands the traditional role of the artist, namely art production and exhibition, by including an interactive dimension for the user. Particularly his spacious installations have gained him international acclaim. His design for the interior of the Cafeteria at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the 2009 Venice Biennial was awarded the Golden Lion. At the Essl Museum, Tobias Rehberger has accepted the challenge of staging one of his spacious installations at the main hall.
