ReMap is an international contemporary art platform which is held biannually in the area of Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio in Athens. In the light of the current social and economical situation in Athens, ReMap3 - in its third manifestation - will present a dense and versatile programme of over 50 different exhibitions, projects and events by Greek and International galleries.
ReMap is an international contemporary art platform open and free to the public, which is held bi-annually in the area of Kerameikos-Metaxourgeio in Athens, in tandem with the Athens Biennial. It is organized by ReMapKM, a not-for-profit organization.
ReMapKM's goal is to create an alternative platform for the production and experiencing of contemporary art within the urban context, to present an interactive environment within a cultural framework and to enhance Athens's positioning in the international contemporary art scene.
In its third incarnation, this year's ReMap3 will be serving as a meeting place for over 250 artists, art historians and curators from around the world. KM's own artistic community will also be represented within the 30 independent and the 25 gallery projects comprising this year's ReMap.
The 50 plus exhibitions and projects hosted by ReMap3 will be presenting visitors an alternative route in KM, an area that is developing into a contemporary cultural hub in the centre of Athens and is home to the new Athens Municipal Art Gallery, the Athens Film Archive, the Kunsthalle Athena, The Breeder and Rebecca Camhi galleries, the ATOPOS Contemporary Visual Culture (ATOPOS CVC), Ε.Δ.Ω, Frown Tails, and a host of theatres including the new Synergy-o experimental stage and the internationally renowned Attis Theatre, which has been active in the area for over 20 years. Over the six weeks of the ReMap3 programme, all these institutions will coexist with ReMap3 exhibitions and projects, which are to be temporarily housed in unutilized spaces throughout the area. Far removed from the classic exhibition spaces provided by museums, art fairs or galleries, these spaces are neoclassical and 1970s buildings, courtyards, vacant plots and even detached balconies.
This year's programme includes a number of young artists from all over the world, as well as institutions presenting their work in Greece for the first time. This will, strengthen ReMap's dynamic presence as a platform for emerging artists and institutions on the international contemporary art scene.
The main exhibition programme is enriched by a range of performances, creative workshops and events staged in different spaces in the area. ReMap3's info point will be based in the courtyard of an old house in the central Avdi square. The al fresco space has been designed by the distinguished architecture practice ANTONAS OFFICE, with the kind support of IKEA, and will also serve as a work and study 'cell' for creative groups wishing to make use of it. Free Internet access will be provided, as well as a pop-up art bookshop. Entrance to the information 'cell'—and to all ReMap3's exhibitions—will be free of charge.
ReMap 3 is under the aegis of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Tourism and the City of Athens.
