The Days of Future Past
24" x 20" unique Polaroids.
Since their creation, tin robots have captured the
public's imagination. Â These mid-century icons shaped the
way American families, especially adolescent boys,
perceived the future, replete with space travel,
futuristic homes, and androids. Â
Terry's photographic interpretations of these objects call attention
to their sociopolitical iconography. The large format Polaroid literally
magnifies the environmental vocabulary of these seemingly innocent
children's toys and displays the eerie promises heralded by the
cold war propaganda machine of America's crusade
against communism and race into space.
