Der schwarze Duft der Schoenheit. While painting, Eckart Hahn listens to audio books, bizarre stories and novels, and also uncanny and exciting murder mysteries. These literary influences define the motifs and atmosphere in his pictures which transfix viewers with their surreal power. The artist constructs intimate theatrical scenes in a dramatic way. He concerns himself with the compulsions of civilised life, religion, families, social structures and the inherent signs of disintegration. In his works Eckart Hahn explores the iridescent realm between dreams and nightmares. He compares his pictures to wobbly teeth. You fiddle about with them and although it hurts, you are too fascinated to stop.
