cutlog, a Parisian, cutting-edge contemporary art fair dedicated to promoting international galleries which are supporting emerging artists, will hold its third edition from the 20th to the 23rd of October 2011. The galleries of cutlog 2011 will present artworks from their emerging artists, as well as the latest works from their established positions. cutlog is both an alternative and a complement to the other art fairs, focused on presenting under-the-radar galleries, it offers a platform to up and coming artists, as well a bridge between galleries and established collectors. Held under the dome of the Bourse de Commerce, France’s historical equivalent of Wall Street. It is a skip and a jump away from the Grand Palais, the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou. There, in the circular, 1000 meter square room, it disrupts the typical, stern patterns of fairs and encourages a dialogue from galleries to visitors.

Each year, it selects 42 international and french galleries, offering a new visibility and a move away from Parisian art fairs. Since its kick-off three years ago, Cutlog has steadily gathered the upper crust of worldwide press, collectors, museum directors, curators and art lovers. The fair opens to the Guest of Honour and for the press on wednesday 19th, followed by 4 days of open views alongside thematic conferences and artists films.

ARTE / cutlog prize

ARTE, the Franco-german TV network, is investing in the cutting edge discovery of art. The ARTE/cutlog Prize will reward an artist exhibited at cutlog 2011 and the prize will be presented at the Bourse de Commerce in Paris during the fair.

The three selection criteria will be originality, relevance of the work and artistic career, the potential of working on the art scene and consistency of the artistic process. This prize aims to reward the talent and creativity of an emerging contemporary artist. The work and the artistic approach of the winner will correspond to the values upheld by the TV network: boldness, creativity and commitment.

A jury consisting of professionals will award the ARTE/cutlog prize 2011 friday, october 21th.

Artist’s film festival

Mediterranean
Programme 1: « Collected Currents » fragmental museum’curating New York

Saturday october 22 at 1pm & Sunday october 23 at 12am
Collected Currents assembles videos from contemporary art and popular media that represent and/or perform the flow of people, their objects and practices across fluid boundaries, which supposedly define the European Self against its Mediterranean Other(s). While the traditional classification by regions and historical periods of encyclopedic museums of Western cities tend to perpetuate common myths of civilizational superiority, Collected Currents strives to break the myths that fail to take into account the multiplicity and overlapping identities, colonialism, diaspora, nomadism and tourism.

Programme 4 : ARTE Vidéo Night 2011
Saturday, october 22 at 5pm & Sunday, october 23 at 4pm

A certainty: whatever the technique, the artists presented during this evening are each committed with his way of creating – poetics or corrosive, direct or allusive, sometimes discouraged, often funny and comic. 92 short works without dialogue, one night stars, were gathered with well advised actors of the international artistic scene. All in all, video directors of 20 nationalities who, with the variety of their vision, set the tone.

But ARTE Video Night is also an incursion behind the scene of the creation, and the opportunity to penetrate the personal universe of three big artists who were major events this year: Pierrick Sorin at the «104», Tony Oursler at JGM gallery (Jean-Gabriel Mitterrand), Michael Snow at «Le Fresnoy». finally, to shed light on the case on Moussa Sarr, young promising video director whose work had already been presented on ARTE Video Night in 2010.

CRISTIAN MARIUS RITIU & BORS, “NO BORDERS EQUALS TOLERANCE”, MARION DE CANNIERE GALLERY
These two Romanian artists will install a fully customized trailer according to the decorative principles at work in gypsies homes. By combining the features of vernacular architecture gypsy to the volumes of the caravan, they will offer the opportunity to attend a meeting looking as incongruous as accidental but an umbrella and a sewing machine on a dissecting table. The occupation of public space as a gypsy camp thus challenges the notion of hospitality to the very hour when multiplied parking areas for travelers as a contemporary ghettos.

MICHEL PEETZ, “IMAGES D’ETE”, GERY ART GALLERY, NAMUR
ETE (summer) : The hottest season of the northern hemisphere begins at the solstice in June and ends at the September equinox.
ETE, past participle of the verb “être”, in french. These two meanings summarize and unify the 30 shots taken and worked by Michael Peetz. Still images, giving sips of colors to dream, to take off the spirit if not body.

MARC GERENTON, “GNOME”, LES SINGULIERS GALLERY
Marc Gerenton says he has to solve the form to be held between foot and hand in space carved wood that shapes it. It will therefore be put in the form itself, with its resonant be sensitive while remaining within its concern esthetique. These gnomes come from the dark depths of time, we say our fears and our effort to do most anything to do. Marc Gerenton be faced by the challenge of creating the form entredeux which requires him to approach knowledge. The search for the form, by its tensioning, is an attempt to understand life. It is even, perhaps, the royal road to the condition of a dialogue with the thought.

GUILLAUME CABANTOUS, “ULTIMATE”, FLORENCE LEONI GALLERY
Guillaume Cabantous has been exploring for more than ten years the unsuspected artistic ressources of a very common object, the windscreen of a car, only material of its in situ installations.
