Q4U - the two dimensional works. In 2001/02 Feng Mengbo changed the popular Internet game 'Quake 3' to create his own computer game 'Q4U'. The new game is featuring a 3-D likeness of Feng Mengbo holding a video camera in one hand and a plasma riffle in the other. The story is the same as in the original Quake 3: simply kill or be killed.
Q4U - The 2-dimensional Works
ShanghART is pleased to present Feng Mengbo, one of China's leading new media
artists, in his first solo exhibition in China.
Since the early 1990's Feng Mengbo has worked at the intersection between
painting and digital medium. His interactive digital works 'My Private Album'
(1996)'Taking Mr. Doom by Strategy' (1997), 'Q3'(1993) are part of the
history of new media art in China and have been shown widely in China and
internationally.
In 2001/02 Feng Mengbo changed the popular Internet game 'Quake 3' to create
his own computer game 'Q4U'. The new game is featuring a 3-D likeness of Feng
Mengbo holding a video camera in one hand and a plasma riffle in the other. The
story is the same as in the original Quake 3: simply kill or be killed.
Q4U was shown with great success at the 11th Documenta in Kassel and, in an
other version, recently at the Guangzhou Triennial in Southern China.
In his solo exhibition at ShanghART Feng Mengbo shows 2-dimensional works,
including paintings and photos, of scenes from Q4U.
Feng Mengbo, born 1966, was initially trained as a printmaker at the Central
