The Land Sachsen-Anhalt becomes the topic of an exposition. PLAY gallery for still and motion pictures will host Angela Zumpe's stage of the specific day to day social and cultural transformation of the Land, as a cross-media and audiovisual experience. Angela Zumpe introduces the Land in its multi-layered and identity conveying changing processes by the means an audiovisual tale. The main difference from a reportage or documentation can be identified in the fact that the artist manages without speaking or narrating means. No one tells the contemplator: You have to see that.
Experience comes instead of teaching: watch, listen, think about it.
A film portrait was drawn of the region of Anhalt, the region around Dessau, Bernburg, Köthen. It consciously shows the injuries, left by the 20th century. A century made of bellicose confrontation, that left sociopolitical, economical and ideological traces and wounds.

The complexity of the current social, economical and cultural transformation processes - of the diverging perceptions of social and political groups of interest - makes a neutral and non-ideological perspective difficult.
Therefore, it is necessary to establish a new form of conveying messages, that will enable everyone to contemplate collectively, without falling into alleged conflicts of interest.

The installation is about 'urban landscapes in transaction', about the question of how the situation is today. Young people express their perspectives, but also time witnesses come to word, as well as businessmen of the newly created markets and urban transformations; all in all people who have experienced the transaction actively.

Angela Zumpe is Professor for audiovisual media at Hochschule of Anhalt in Dessau.
