Mapping Caylus. Visualizations of place and mind. This exhibition shows typographic and topographic maps and videos of both place and mind, of location and history, of emotions and reactions. These works reflect location, history and the affairs of artist's heart.

comunicato stampa

An exhibition of mapping, history, walking and romance. For 30 days last summer, the artist walked and mapped the little medieval village of Caylus, France, while immersed in the history of troubadours, romance and the Cathars. These works reflect location, history and the affairs of her heart.

Concept of exhibition
Written by Astrid Kensinger Almkhlaafy To walk is to sense and learn, to reflect and absorb the multi-layered textures and poetics of space. By walking intentionally, for the purpose of finding meaning, our minds can meander inward and outward to the historical and immediate narratives of place.

This exhibition shows typographic and topographic maps and videos of both place and mind, of location and history, of emotions and reactions. The works are from thirty days of a summer artist residency and of daily meanders and musings in the little village of Caylus, France, a village with a history of troubadours, romance and the Cathars.

The summer colors, textures and sounds become fused with ruminations of history and romance and the reality of personal life. These works explore the walk as art and the map as art.
