In his 5th show at Soledad Lorenzo, entitled False-Color Actions, Tony Oursler will introduce a new body of work built on his continuing exploration of the existential nature of human relationships. Here the artist incorporates new elements into his elaborately composed and synchronized video projections. Large and colorful projected , sculpted, and printed characters are mixed with painted forms and populate the gallery. In some works printed cut out frozen forms are reanimated in part with video projection and sound. Each individual installation is a combination of colorful blown glass, photographic prints and painted resin sculpture, which form a unique tableau that becomes illuminated and populated with video characters. Blown glass is reminiscent of cartoon thought balloons and crystal balls, both trapping and reflecting the video. Each of the installations juxtaposes the animated, frozen, and sculpted characters, suggesting they are locked in a dynamic, interpersonal struggle. The artist sees this work as somewhere between the crystallization of a memory, a diagrammatic flow chart, and the causality of a chain of thought.

Thematically related and to be included in this exhibition are a series of 6-8 paintings which incorporate imbedded digital screens, as well as a number of Oursler's micro video cosmoses, and collages. Many of the characters, linguistic and visual propes find their way across all the mediums within the exhibition.

Tony Oursler, known for his innovative combination of video, sculpture, and performance, explores the relationship between the individual and mass media systems with humor, irony, and imagination. Among the artists Oursler has collaborated with is Constance DeJong, Mike Kelley, David Bowie and Sonic Youth member, Kim Gordon. On February 2010 his work was presented at the collective show, Sonic Youth etc. : Sensational fix at Centro de Arte dos de Mayo, Madrid

Among others, his work is part of the following museum and public collections: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, California; Musée d'Art Contemporain, Barcelona; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Tate Gallery, London; Musée national d'art moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; National Museum of Osaka, Japan.
