C.A.M Gallery / Akaretler presents Nihâl Martlı's exhibition 'Romantique' on March 27 - April 21, 2012. As always, a dreamy, nostalgic and poetic structure is experienced with the character in the paintings.

It is a tempting and dark romanticism that runs from subject into material and pictorial values, contains passion and sensibility in itself and seduces the look. The characters created by Martlı, wave in a black addicted atmosphere. The romantic soul hasn't abandoned home yet, in a time the Method rules it all. 'Romantique' is the coming true of a metaphor; black is the coma of the best colors, as romanticism with the most rapturous feelings.

C.A.M - standing for Contemporary Art Marketing – Gallery was established in 1992 by Sevil Binat and since 2002, the gallery has been solely managed by Sevil and Levend Binat. The gallery which is one of the first galleries in Istanbul which exhibits photography in a serious and regular system, now operates on two different locations: Nişantaşı and Akaretler, and shows the work of contemporary artists and charts the trends and concerns of the developing scene. While C.A.M focuses on work that is innovative and original, with a strong emphasis on supporting young artists, and discovering new and vital work, it actively participates in fairs and exhibitions abroad to keep its relationship with contemporary art.

Diversity is important, and since its foundation the gallery has embraced and exhibited a wide range of artists, from the conceptually based work of sculptors, to the politically charged and to the erotica.The multi-disciplinary approach of the artists involved with the gallery reflects the diverse interests of Sevil and Levend Binat.

'As the audience and the appetite for contemporary art has increased in Turkey, C.A.M Gallery has not shied away from exhibiting works that are often difficult in content', says Binat.

'One of the founding principles of the gallery was to educate and to move its audience and clients – as well as to support its artists. As Turkey becomes a serious player in the global art world, the gallery has attempted to remain committed to quality over quantity, to challenging Works over more comfortable ones. The gallery also strongly believes that, aside from their responsibility to their artists and collectors, it must help educate the public about the shifting notions of what art is, helping to cultivate both taste and awareness.'
