At the cutting edge of multimedia technology, Culturespaces is unveiling a
new type of exhibition at the Carrières de Lumières with "Gauguin - Van Gogh, Painters of Colour"
At the heart of the Alpilles, the Carrières de Lumières are the setting for a new multimedia show which
is unique in Europe "Gauguin - Van Gogh, Painters of Colour", beginning on 30 March this year. For this
show, Culturespaces called on Gianfranco Iannuzzi, an expert in transforming spaces to create an
"interactive environment" using images, sounds and lights to enhance the artistic experience. With 70
video-projectors beaming images over more than 6,000 m2 and 3D audio adapted to the characteristics
of the site, this is the largest fixed video installation in Europe.
Thanks to the powerful technological resources employed, the spectator is totally immersed in the
pictorial worlds of Van Gogh and Gauguin and taken on a journey which uses all of the senses to explore
both the similarities of the two artists' careers and their profoundly different use of colour.
With this innovative and ambitious show - the first of a long series, Culturespaces is revolutionising the
public's approach to art and is aiming to broaden the access to culture as much as possible. The removal
of the physical distance, made possible by dematerialising the works, encourages a dialogue which is
fuelled above all by emotion. The visiting experience is infinitely enriched when spectators become
actors. An innovative approach which is particularly appropriate in a site as mysterious and majestic as
the Carrières de Lumières, listed as a national "natural site".
