An epicentre for the freshest ideas in communication, food, culture, design and the digital industrial revolution.
Instigated by Tom Dixon for Milan Design Week 2012.
We are excited to announce MOST, a new and important destination instigated by Tom Dixon which will turn the National Museum of Science and Technology Milan into an ambitious environment for innovation and culture. MOST delivers a diverse group of leading global brands and young designers who will be located in the extraordinary historic spaces of the museum from Tuesday 17 – Sunday 22 April 2012. This collision of technology, culture and design is set to be one of Milan's highlights during Salone del Mobile 2012. Each week our newsletter will highlight different exhibitors taking part and keep you updated on the latest developments of the project
Tom Dixon
Obsessed with honest materials, and a commitment to innovative design and manufacture, Tom Dixon is on a self-propelled mission to rethink and revive the British Furniture Industry.
Fabrica at Most
MOST is excited to announce the exhibition SEARCHING FOR CASSIOPEIA: A limited edition collection of 12 chairs designed by Fabrica for the Italian Chair District.
How do people sit? There are those who flop down on a staircase or on a sawn-off tree trunk, those who prefer a stool with turned legs or a classic straw-bottomed chair. Then there are those who use a chair as a tool, to get hold of something that otherwise would be out of reach. These reflections formed the foundations for Searching for Cassiopeia, a limited edition collection of 12 concept chairs combining different techniques and materials, designed by Fabrica, the Benetton Group communication research centre, and manufactured by the Italian Chair District. Located in the heart of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, this manufacturing cluster includes small, sub-contracting artisan firms and big industrial companies highly specialised in the wood/furniture sector and in each individual stage in the manufacturing process.
SODABAR serving at MOST
SodaStream joins forces with Yves Béhar at MOST on a new revolutionary home carbonation system – an eco alternative to all bottled fizzy drinks.
Béhar's concept re-examines every element of the SodaStream system, including the interface, design and material selection to redefine the way it is used. Set to the dramatic backdrop of a full size cruise liner, the SodaStream SODA BAR will supply fresh free drinks to all with no bottles on site.
Yves explains, "Disposable water bottles are going away, and so they should, so now is the time to rethink our soda bottles as well. I am a big fan of the spirit of SodaStream which places environmental responsibility alongside family and fun at the centre of its purpose.
SodaStream uses technology to reduce the complexity and waste of sparkling water and soda, and this is the quality I focused on; creating a simple and beautiful object for the kitchen while keeping 21st century values."
Tumi installation at MOST
To mark the launch of Dror for Tumi, an 11 piece collection of travel bags by Dror Benshetrit, Theatre Director Jules Wright of the Wapping Project London will present 'Passaggio' at MOST - an immersive multi-media installation that turns key pieces into 'protagonists in an unfolding dramatic tale'. The exhibition will take place within Sala delle Colonne, once the library of the ancient Olivetan monastery; it is a beautiful space with simple architecture, marked by a sequence of arches and columns.
La Chance launches at MOST
MOST is pleased to confirm La Chance, a new French company, who will make their debut in Milan with a collection of furniture and lighting designed by a young generation of innovative designers from all around the world. Jean-Baptiste Souletie and Louise Breguet, founders of La Chance, will present designs from Pierre Favresse (FR), Bashko Trybek (PL), Suzanne de Graef (NL), Luca Nichetto (IT), Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance (FR), Charles Kalpakian (FR), Note Design Studio (SE), Francois Dumas (FR), Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova (IL/CZ), Pool Design (FR) and Jonah Takagi (USA). The installation will be located in the Rail Transport building at MOST with the dramatic backdrop of a reconstructed late 19th century railway station.
Tom Dixon Exhibits at MOST
British design company Tom Dixon presents ‘Luminosity’ a showcase of new lamps, lights and shades presented in a series of illuminated environments, at MOST. Luminosity is an exploration of light. On a mission to illuminate and furnish the future, we aim to de-mystify preconceptions of artificial light and to educate people on the future of lighting. Using the latest technologies and materials, drawn from the worlds of engineering, mathematics and nature, our new products shed as much light on the mechanisms and effects of luminous objects as on the design aesthetic itself
