In 'What if Google Maps went live...' director Roel Wouters brings to life the still motionless image of an empty building site on Strijp-S by video inserts depicting the spontaneous and creative take-over by inhabitants of Eindhoven. A plea for the creative appropriation of the public space that links up our lives.
With the participation of composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven and choreographer Katja Heitmann, 170 musicians, 112 umbrella people, 155 posers and twisters, 52 hula hoopers, 8 free-runners and hundreds of people participating.
Special Appearances by zZz (Daan Schinkel & Björn Ottenheim), Luna Maurer (Studio Moniker), Karin de Wit (Holland's Got Talent), Roger Martinez and Bas van Duren, and the musicians of Koninklijke HArmonie Phileutonia, Eindhovens Seniorenorkest, Stratums Muziekkorps St. Cecilia, Sambaband Batedeira, Escola de Samba os Malandros and Muziekvereniging Eindhoven West.
What if Google Maps went live... was commissioned by flux/S international arts festival and has been conceived and directed by Roel Wouters. All footage was recorded on the former Philips industrial site Strijp-S in Eindhoven during the Prelude of flux/S 3 - SQUARE ONE, September 3-4, 2011.
