An original and extensive exhibition of some of the world's best known photography curated to compliment the publication of the book entitled 'Collecting Photography' written by Gerry Badger.
Focus Gallery is delighted to announce Collecting Photography, an original
and extensive exhibition of some of the world's best known photography
curated to compliment the publication of the book entitled 'Collecting
Photography' written by Gerry Badger, published by Mitchell Beazley in May
2003.
The art of photography has been practiced and acknowledged since the middle
of the nineteenth century and collected ever since, however it has only been
over the last decade that this art form has seen a sharp rise in interest,
artists and collectors. The investment value has been recognised widely,
and more and more public galleries are exhibiting photographic works as part
of their arts programme.
Collecting Photography the exhibition brings to life some of the images and
photographers discussed in the book, with approx 60 reputable and
collectable images encompassing a wide range of themes and price structures.
From the abstract to the literary, Collecting Photography is set to
enthuse and inspire both new and established collectors alike.
New owner of Focus Gallery Dana Cass says: "Focus Gallery is delighted to
be working in conjunction with this informative new book, and we welcome the
opportunity to enforce the facts within Collecting Photography. At Focus
Gallery we offer collectors, both new and established, the opportunity to
view, hold and engage in our stocks of wonderful photography in a
comfortable and welcoming environment. As well as the varied and extensive
exhibitions throughout the year, Focus Gallery will offer expert advice and
authority on photography and photographers, both vintage and contemporary."
The exhibition will feature highly collectable photography, from as early as
Hill and Adamson to contemporary photographers such as Martin Parr. Ranging
from Francis Frith's landscapes, Atget's Paris, stunning Stieglitz and
Steichen gravures, Karl Blossfeldt's famous Wonder Garden of Nature to
exciting work from contemporary artists such as Joel Meyerowitz, Elliott
Erwitt and Sabastiao Salgado. The exhibition will also include the work of
Henri Cartier-Bresson, André Kertesz, Bill Brandt, Tony Ray-Jones and
Eadweard Muybridge.
All of these photographers are linked through their notability in the
collector's market and their part in the history of photography. Collecting
Photography aims to reflect the diverse market of photography available
today.
