The fifth edition of the contemporary art fair dedicated to the presentation of solo shows and coinciding with Art Basel.
the-solo-project was set up by Paul Kusseneers Gallery in Antwerp and is supported by an array of established galleries. By addressing some key qualities, which are missing from the current international art agenda, the fair showcase's work by leading artists, presented by a carefully selected group of international galleries. For the fifth year running this clearly defined fair will feature presentations of ‘Solo Shows by Selected Galleries’ at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel. The fair coincides with the Art Basel Fair.
the-solo-project has quickly established itself as the foremost satellite fair in Basel. This Project is not an attempt to replicate already existing subsidiary fairs, rather it offers an opportunity to enhance the contemporary art experience by presenting a more in depth view of individual artists work.
The fair consciously resembles more a series of considered gallery type shows in well constructed spaces, giving exhibited works more 'room to breathe', the artists more room to make a clear presentation and the visitors an environment in which the works can be considered as a body of work rather than on the basis of individual pieces. The galleries exhibiting will present works for sale but the emphasis of this fair will be a return to a scholarly based agenda.
Within this context and in response to requests from an increasing number of collectors, the-solo-project will not be basing its choices on participating artists or galleries on age as a definng factor but rather make choices initially on the personal invitation of Paul Kusseneers and his curatorial advisors.
