WALKING THE CITY, a group show featuring the work of Jean-Michel Berts, Bruno Bertrand-Frezoul, Ronan Guillou and Wolfram Ruoff, will be on view at Sous Les Etoiles Gallery from June 18 to August 31, 2012. The images exhibited in this group show examine urban spaces through lyrical and dynamic means.
Jean-Michel Berts collects the essence of cities. This glance is there to remind us of the grandeur of civilizations. The abstraction of characters makes it possible to move human construction forward and thus reanimate its timelessness. Whether it be Paris, New York, Venice, Berlin or Casablanca, through his eyes these sublimated cities take a poetic, ethereal and dreamlike value.
Bruno Bertrand-Frezoul showcases his illustrative approach in his urban series of New York. Taken between 2006 and 2007 the emotional imagery embodies a vintage quality, evoking a timeless sensitivity, rousing up memories of days long gone.
The travels of Wolfram Ruoff are always very intense with long walks across cities, each time leading to new and different sensations. Ruoff absorbs these new locations to capture their most intimate contours. The mood of a city is a complex story.
Catching places, cities, glances: Ronan Guillou translates his pleasure and desire for keeping traces of them during his walks. Cities, and the people who animate them, are the basis of his humanistic approach. Aside from his commercial campaigns, Guillou’s personal work records moments of ordinary life, where men and women are photographed during their daily routines in urban landscapes. In 2011, Trans Photographic Press Publishing launched Ronan Guillou’s monograph Angel.
