Lisa Prior's latest video documents the artist's recent travels to northern Finland. The looped video depicts the artist attempting to find a finish husband  a real country boy. This venture takes her beyond the ArcticÂCircle. The piece explores the human desire for companionship by drawing the viewer into a story evolving around a parody of a woman on the look out for a suitable partner.
Recent works from finland by Lisa Prior
Gallery N. von Bartha is proud to announce its forthcoming exhibition
entitled 'Animal Husbandry', recent works from Finland by Lisa Prior. The
exhibition will open on Tuesday May 6th and will be on view for one month.
Animal Husbandry, Lisa Prior's latest video documents the artist's recent
travels to northern Finland. The looped video depicts the artist attempting
to find a finish husband  a real country boy. This venture takes her beyond
the ArcticÂCircle. The piece explores the human desire for companionship by
drawing the viewer into a story evolving around a parody of a woman on the
look out for a suitable partner.
As in previous works such as 'My Talent Does Not Lie In This Area' (2000)
and 'Grant Hammer' (2001) the artist takes centre stage, but rather then
externalising her desire she now confronts them and takes the matter in her
own hands.
Ceramic Objects as well as drawings made during Lisa Prior's recent
residency at the Helsinki International Artists in Residence Program at the
Cable Factory will accompany the video and complete the artist's
installation.
Lisa Prior studied at Colorado University at Boulder and received her MFA at
Goldsmiths College in 1997 as well as her Associate Research in Fine Art at
the same college in 2000.
Apart from her regular participations at important international group
exhibitions, she is also known for her activities as the A PRIORI GROUP. The
A PRIORI GROUP is a conceptual company founded and operated by the artist
since 1996. Notably in 2001 the Group's events division organised an
exhibition entitled 'Insider Trading (profit without honour)', a 24h secret
group show of 100 international artists at the Mandeville Hotel in London.
