Primae Noctis Art Gallery è lieta di presentare la personale “Babies in Transcendent Space” dell’artista indonesiano Haris Purnomo.
Haris Purnomo inizia la sua carriera alla fine degli anni Settanta unendosi all’Indonesia Art Movement fondato a Jakarta nel 1975 e oggi è tra i più importanti artisti indonesiani contemporanei. Egli ha raffinato la sua tecnica pittorica nel corso degli anni attraverso un lavoro di ricerca instancabile.

Con queste nuove opere Purnomo dimostra di essere tuttora interessato alla dicotomia bene e male, positività e negatività, luce e tenebra, vizio e innocenza, forza e debolezza.
L’artista amalgama in armoniose composizioni questi bambini innocenti, privi di difesa, ricoprendoli di tatuaggi, a evidenziare l’atteggiamento opposto, l’aggressione e la forza, per lasciarli fluttuare in uno spazio trascen- dente. Uno spazio immaginario, che trascende la realtà, la oltrepassa e sorpassa per svelarla, facendo appa- rire di fronte ai nostri occhi lo specchio della realtà vissuta dall’artista, e nello spettatore, pian piano, cresce, prende forma e lo assale una realtà così familiare, costantemente vissuta ed esperita, incontrata e affrontata ogni giorno, la realtà delle metropoli contemporanee.
Innocenza e simboli antichi, tribali, eppure così attuali, come i tatuaggi, sono evocati a simbolo di forza violenta, e i neonati, succubi, in queste opere si riscoprono fusione e corpo di una dualità inscindibile che domina la realtà umana in ogni sua espressione.

L’ambiguità nelle opere di Haris Purnomo si delinea in questa doppia rappresentazione: la purezza si ritrova bloccata, fin dall’inizio del suo cammino nella vita, da un male, un vizio, un’oscurità, eppure la vediamo sospinta da una forza, da un potere, che può portarla a una luce calda, abbagliante, o a un pianto disperato, oppure a un eccesso d’innocenza che, a ben guardare, si rivela armata non di sole piume, ma di coltelli.

Primae Noctis Art Gallery is pleased to present the Solo exhibition “Babies in Transcendent Space” of the Indonesian artist Haris Purnomo.
Haris Purnomo began his career in the late seventies joining Indonesia Art Movement, founded in 1975 in Ja- karta, and today is among the most important contemporary Indonesian artists. He has refined his technique over the years through tireless research work.

These new series of paintings displays that Purnomo is still interested in the dichotomy good and evil, positive and negative, light and darkness, vice and innocence, strength and weakness.
The artist blends in harmonious compositions innocent children, defenseless, covering them with tattoos, to hi- ghlight the opposite attitude, aggression and strength, and let them float in a transcendent space. This is an imaginary space that transcends reality, goes beyond and surpasses it to reveal it: it discloses the reality ex- perienced by the artist. In the observer, gradually grows, takes shape and attacks him something so familiar, constantly lived and experienced, encountered and dealt with every day: the reality of the contemporary metropolis.
Innocence and ancient symbols, tribal, yet so relevant, like tattoos, are evoked as a symbol of violent force, and infants, slaves, in these works are rediscovered body of this inseparable duality that dominates the human reality in all its expressions.

The ambiguity in Haris Purnomo’s artwork is outlined in this double representation: the purity is thwarted, since the beginning of her journey through life, by an evil, a defect, an obscurity, and yet we see it driven by a force, by a power that can bring a warm glow, or a crying, or an excess of innocence, which, on closer examination, reveals itself not only armed with feathers, but with knives.
