Art-o-rama 2012

La Cartonnerie, Marseille

International Fair of Contemporary Art. It fosters meetings between contemporary art world actors and has made of its intimate format (around 20 curatorial projects) a stamp for quality of relations and artistic statements.

comunicato stampa

ART-O-RAMA is the first international art fair in the South of France and has been developing a new format that makes its uniqueness; each booth is considered as an exhibition space which architectural specificities lie on the gallery’s curatorial proposition for our fair. We allow gallery owners to present themselves under a unique and original light; signing their artistic line in a space they have designed according to the project they have built with their artists.

ART-O-RAMA fosters meetings between contemporary art world actors and has made of its intimate format (around 20 curatorial projects) a stamp for quality of relations and artistic statements.

ART-O-RAMA was created in 2007 by Gaïd Beaulieu-Lambert and Jérôme Pantalacci who codirected the fair until October 2011. From this date on, ART-O-RAMA is run by Jérôme Pantalacci and the art galleries selection shared with the members of the artistic committee.

ART-O-RAMA invites Le Confort Moderne, art center based in city of Poitiers, to present a special project for the fair gathering artists’pieces and a music programmation during the opening weekend.

“OFF MODERN”
The exhibition will gather some of the pieces that have been produced at Le Confort Moderne since the last ten years for solo or group shows. The selected pieces helped build the art centre programme as they were successivlely shown in the same spaces.

This selection centres around two main lines : the figure - wether it be cast, drawn or painted - and the gesture, the performance and the physical implication as a matter of representation, video recording and elaboration process. Elements of Pop Culture also appear in the background while evading the genre imaging and clichés.

The title “Off Modern” was borrowed from Stefan Brüggemann show titles list. It refers as much to an extra muros activity of Le Confort Moderne as to an obscure alternative to post modernism. http://www.confort-moderne.fr/

Selected by last year's international exhibitors to be 2012 Guest artist, Caroline Duchatelet will show new films inside a space specifically designed for the occasion. ART-O-RAMA will also support the production of limited editions in the framework of the monographic catalogues edited by éditions P.

Caroline Duchatelet’s works focus on light and landscape. She started as a sculptor, does installations and since three years has been dedicating herself to video. She was a resident at Villa Medicis in Roma in 2009 and prolonged her journey in Italy through Lazio, Basilicata, Apuglia, Lipari Iles, Umbria and Sicily where she did a series of films on landscape from which are extracted photogram stills that either belong to series or come individually.

"Caroline Duchatelet has filmed dawns in Italy. Doing so is welcoming the birth of the visible as progressive appearance of day light reveals the world’s substance and its lines. The video time and the ongoing metamorphosis of the image reveal the extreme plasticity of the visible, its infinite power of appearance and fading, of figuration and distortion. Caroline Duchatelet’s gesture is a ritual of welcome and attention, a still ceremony each dawn repeated. Choose a place and a frame and let light do in silence. What happens in the image is not quite an epiphany nor a revelation because light does not unveil or fix a definitive image, it modules the infinite variation of the sensible and presides over the immanent games of line and colour, surface and depth."
