The Clock. A video collage made up of thousands of clips from thousands of films, it deals with time and clocks - but is also a chronograph in its own right. Over a 24-hour period, it shows us a watch, alarm clock or clock tower from a new film every minute, each displaying the actual time at the location.
The Kunsthaus is delighted to present an exclusive: the first and only showing in Switzerland of Christian Marclay’s masterpiece ‘The Clock.’ This fascinating, 24-hour video work was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale and audiences in London, New York and Venice have queued long and patiently to see it.
A video collage made up of thousands of clips from thousands of films, it deals with time and clocks – but is also a chronograph in its own right. Over a 24-hour period, it shows us a watch, alarm clock or clock tower from a new film every minute, each displaying the actual time at the location. And just as in real life, the sometimes agonizingly slow, sometimes alarmingly hectic passage of time is embedded in thousands of human stories, so we never know what will happen next.
The film can be viewed for the normal price of admission during general opening hours. It will also be shown straight through from 10 a.m. on Friday 24 August to 6 p.m. on Saturday 25 August. The gallery will remain open overnight while the other parts of the collection are closed. Film and art lovers will have a second chance to experience the night shift from 31 August to 1 September, when ‘The Clock’ will once again be shown in its entirety. Owing to the limited seating available, we regret it will not be possible to accommodate groups. Re-entry on the same day is permitted.
