comunicato stampa

The Festival invites you to discover 64 projects of artists coming from 20 different countries from September 8 to
30. The outdoor section offers 25 projects on buildings, in the streets and even on trees of the town. Indoor, 28 exhibitions are presented. Amongst them 20 will be shown at the Ex-EPA, the former supermarket transformed – for the last time! – into an ephemeral museum. Other venues include the Musée Jenisch, the Musée suisse de l’appareil photographique, the Musée historique, the Confrérie des Vignerons, the School of Photography (CEPV), the Quai1 gallery and Sainte-Claire Church. The winning projects of the Photo and Film Awards are part of this section. The Festival also collaborates with the other actors who make Vevey a « city of images » through 11 parallel events. Under the patronage of René Burri and JR, the 2012 Festival Images has prepared its bag of international surprises with collaborations that include Liu Bolin, Christian Marclay, Dieter Meier, Andres Serrano, Roman Signer or Nadav Kander and Jean-Luc Godard, to name but a few.

A monumental Cindy Sherman of 500 m2 in Vevey The Festival Images is delighted to announce a giant portrait of American contemporary artist Cindy Sherman, from the famous series Untitled Film Stills, that will be exhibited on the wall of the Banque Cantonale Vaudoise (BCV) in Vevey (Switzerland). The press conference of the Festival Image will take place on August 30, 10:30 am, during the set up of this monumental piece of 500 square meters.

Born in 1954 in New Jersey, Cindy Sherman is on of the major contemporary international artists. Pioneer of the postmodern photography, she lives and works in New York. Through her work, she plays with her own body, constantly exploring the construction of identity and femininity in the society. Cindy Sherman created Untitled Film Stills between 1977 and 1980 which was her inaugural work. The series comprises 69 self-portraits which are meticulously composed like the B movies of the fifties. The artist plays the role of many female personalities, including solitary heroines from films that were never released. The Festival Images presents Untitled Film Still #21 which shows a woman looking off camera, as if lost in a city’s decor. The press conference will be the occasion to observe the set up of this monumental photography. It will take place on Thursday August 30th, 10:30 am, at the Quai1 gallery, permanent space of the Festival Images.
