Five contemporary artists: Gary Colclough, Sophie Iremonger, Rob Kesseler, Malene Hartmann Rasmussen and Troika
From the first pictorial marks on cave walls through to the 20th century Land Art movement, nature has always been a source of inspiration for artists. Yet, despite current environmental concerns, the natural world seems rarely to feature in contemporary art practise. Nature is an exhibition of five contemporary artists for whom this is not so, whose work is influenced and informed by the natural world and its phenomena. The exhibited pieces, from a range of different media, are variously experimental, insightful, ambiguous and poignant. These artists have no explicit environmental agenda; they are simply motivated by nature's mystery and beauty, its richness and complexity, its sheer strangeness.
