comunicato stampa

From September, 19-23, 2012, the Central House of Artist will host 16th edition of ART MOSCOW, international contemporary art fair

In 2012 ART MOSCOW visitors will witness a new turn in the fair history. Since the beginning ART MOSCOW has undergone numerous changes: assimilating post-soviet ideology the project entered a new époque of 2000 when contemporary art became a symbol of glamour life. Today political and economical changes in Russia incite an immediate reaction of public and, as a result, of artistic community. Contemporary art observes the formation of a new class of people and activation of civil society. Past and current events in the Russian art field will be the main topic of discussions on ART MOSCOW.

The fair initiates panel discussions dedicated to ways of contemporary art development in Russia and new opportunities of market relations. Analysis of changes and establishment of a dialog between collectors and artists is the key aspect of the fair programme.

ART MOSCOW panel discussions will cover the following issues: “Curatoring on post-soviet territory”, “Making art market transparent”, “How to attract intellectuals to contemporary art”, “Detection of main components of contemporary art market”, “Art of collecting: there is no need to be a billionaire to become a collector”, “Philanthropy in art: presentation of foundations”, “Corporate engagement in art and culture: the Western experience and new opportunities in Russia”, “The Western perception of Russian contemporary art”, “How contemporary art can enhance attractiveness of cities”, “Attracting regions – creation of a platform: art, politics and new curatorial structures”. Thus, the fair aims not only at organizing the turnover of pieces of art, but also at consolidating current views and opinions. Panel discussions will be moderated by well-known art critics and followed by “questions and answers” sessions.

ART MOSCOW will exhibit galleries from Russia, Europe and Asia. Their stands, situated on two floors of the Central House of Artist, will showcase artworks of both famous and beginning artists. Among permanent ART MOSCOW participants are Triumph Gallery (Moscow), Fine Art Gallery (Moscow), Galerie Iragui (Moscow), Eastern Gallery (Moscow), Frolov Gallery (Moscow), Collection Gallery (Kyiv), Glaz Gallery (Moscow).

ART MOSCOW has long term relationships with many of its foreign participants. Such Havana galleries as La Acacia Gallery and Collage Habana Gallery, which participate in the fair for the forth and second time respectively, will showcase artists from Cuba, playing an important role on contemporary art market of the country. Old friends of ART MOSCOW - Zvono Gallery (Belgrade), Knoll Gallery (Vienna-Budapest) and Whitestone gallery (Tokyo) will present their artworks here as usual.

Galleries taking part at ART MOSCOW for the first time come from different countries: Morgen Contemporary Gallery (Berlin), Cordeiros (Lisbon), Galleria Goethe (Bolzano), 11.12 Gallery (Moscow), Blast Gallery (Paris) and 3 galleries from Tehran - Assar Gallery, Ariana Gallery and Tirgun Image Works Gallery. In 2012 a special attention is taken to stands with artworks by Iranian artists.

In small halls ART MOSCOW will exhibit galleries with artworks by young Russian artists from Moscow and other Russian cities: KHLAM Gallery (Voronezh), LES Gallery (Moscow), Dias Gallery (Irkutsk).

Special non-commercial projects will be organized for ART MOSCOW 2012.
